My Review
Katherine Center is one of my favorite rom-com authors, so I was thrilled to receive an eARC of her latest novel, The Love Haters. She has a talent for crafting stories that remind her readers that sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. Her characters are flawed and relatable in the most human ways. The way she makes you feel seen and understood is nothing short of magical.
The Love Haters follows the journey of Katie Vaughn, a woman grappling with body image issues and low self-esteem. To keep her job, Katie must overcome her fear of being seen, particularly in swimsuits, and learn how to swim.
The story unfolds as Katie and Hutch work together by day and swim together at night. Through these experiences, they gradually share their struggles and past hardships. This relationship fosters an environment where Katie begins to embrace and appreciate her body and self-worth, ultimately leading her to feel capable of loving herself—and potentially loving someone else again.
The narrative will resonate with anyone who has felt uncomfortable in their own body or has found it difficult to love themselves. Katie’s transformative journey offers a relatable and cathartic experience for readers.
